TIKTOK FOOD TRENDS WITH AN ITALIAN FLAIR

COVID-19 HAS CHANGED THE WAY PEOPLE SPEND THEIR FREE TIME.

Amongst many options, TikTok is the new trending social medium that attract many people’s attention around the globe, who they choose to spend some of their free time at exploring this new “world” by viewing but also sharing their own culinary creations, among other types of content.

Seeking to have fun and feel a sense of connection with others, people grab their cooking tools and make comfort food that, in some cases, gets viral. Today, we will take a look at three TikTok food trends, that are Mediterranean diet- friendly, easy to make and worth the hype!

1. GIGI HADID’S PASTA or #gigihadidpasta

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 small garlic clove, cut in small pieces
  • ¼ minced shallot
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp vodka
  • 1 tsp pepper flakes
  • 250 gr. shells pasta/ penne
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Basil leaves for serving
  • Salt & Pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

For the vodka sauce

  • On a large pot, sauté the garlic and the onion until they get softer and brownish.
  • Add the tomato paste and mix until it gets caramelized
  • Add the heavy cream and mix well
  • Add the vodka and mix
  • Wait until all the ingredients are cooked together and vodka evaporates.
  • Then, add the pepper flakes, the salt and pepper

For the pasta

  • Boil the pasta on another pot, according to the instructions
  • Before you strain them, keep ¼ of their water
  • Then, add the shells on the pot that contains the spicy sauce, pour the water you kept, add the butter and mix very well, having the pot in medium heat, until the butter melts.
  • Sprinkle with grated parmesan and add extra salt and pepper, if needed
  • Serve the pasta adding some extra parmesan and the basil leaves

2. BAKED FETA PASTA or simply #FetaPasta

INGREDIENTS

  • 230 gr. pasta
  • 2 pints cherry tomatoes
  • 230 gr. feta cheese
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ¼ cup basil

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add tomatoes, olive oil, salt and pepper on a baking dish
  • Add a block of feta cheese in the middle, and sprinkle it with oregano
  • Bake at 200 °C for around 30’ in the oven, until the tomatoes burst and the feta looks melted
  • When it comes out, add some fresh garlic, fresh basil, and mix well
  • Add the cooked pasta and mix them all together well

 

3. TORTILLA WRAPS or #tortillachallenge

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tortilla
  • 1 tsp pesto
  • 75 gr. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4-5 cherry tomatoes
  • Some parmesan flakes

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Cut a slit to the middle of tortilla and fill each quarter with a different ingredient (1 quarter pesto, 1 quarter tomatoes, 1 quarter parmesan flakes, 1 quarter chicken)
  • Then simply fold the quarters until you have a wrap with 4 layers
  • Spread some olive oil if you want and toast it for a few minutes
